DCI Detectives Unearth How USIU Lecturer Conned University Students Over Shs 10 Million

In a disturbing incident, police in Nairobi are investigating how a lecturer at the United States International University- Africa (USIU- Africa) allegedly duped several students out of more than Ksh. 10 million (approximately $72, 000) for a non- existent trip to the United Kingdom.
According to the students who recorded statements at the Kasarani Police Station, the lecturer, identified as Moses Joshua Onyango, who was the Chairman of the International Relations department, informed them about a trip to the UK in November 2023. Each student was required to pay $3, 000 (Ksh. 386, 485) for the trip, which was to take place in April 2024.
The students claim that 24 of them fell victim to the alleged scam and paid the money, either fully or in installments, totaling around Ksh. 10, 872, 000 (approximately $79, 000). However, the police have only been able to verify that Onyango received close to Ksh. 7 million (around $51, 000) from the students.
After the students paid the fees, the trip was suddenly postponed under unclear circumstances. When the students tried to follow up on the trip and demand their money back, they were shocked to learn that the university had not sanctioned the trip, and it had, in fact, been canceled.
The distraught students have made several efforts to address their grievances with the university, including sending emails to the dean, but they have received little to no feedback. To their surprise, they have recently learned that the lecturer has been fired from the institution.
